Blog Post Nine! Revised

1. There are many ways in which assistive and adaptive technologies are able to support learners. I think one great example of this would be listening to books being read. The option of audio book can be super helpful for students who may struggle with reading and following along on their own. I know I can speak from personal experience with my brother who have some learning disabilities that use audio books. It enables the reader / listener to engage more with the books so that they can succeed better within that given subject  area. I really cannot think of any challenges that may occur with these types of technologies in the classroom. The only potential problem I could foresee is something going wrong with the device itself that they are trying to listen with. But even with that, teachers are becoming more technologically advanced so we might be able to figure it out on our own or just call someone from tech to fix it.

2. The key principles of Universal Design are ones of making everything accessible to all types of people. Each key principal dives into a different way to make sure that things are accessible for all types of people. For example while I was looking into this topic I came across the creation of a keyboard for the blind. It has braille right below the keys so it is simple and requires minimum effort. Below I will include a picture so the reader can understand what I mean by this. The key principles are important within this issue to address the larger issue of usability because everyone should be provided with the same type of resources and advantages. It should be an equal playing ground, especially within a classroom or school setting.

3. Two software tools that I would love to have in my classroom are notability and Khan academy. For notability I used it all throughout high school and found it fairly simple to take notes and stay organized. Notability works best for an Ipad type of device. Although if my students were to have computers I would support their use in "Microsoft Onenote". I feel as if notability and onenote do most of the same ideas. I really like how organized these apps allow you to be with your note taking. The other academic software I would support my students in using is Khan academy. Throughout all my years of being a student I have found myself always running to Khan academy if I was lost on anything. The teachers of K.A (Khan Academy) really help to explain the problem and write out all of the steps. I really liked K.A because sometimes the way that the teacher is explaining it is a different way than what the teacher during class taught. It is okay if the student does not understand the way that the teacher taught because maybe another way will work better for them.

4. I enjoy blogging so far. Sometimes it can be an extra hasel about making sure I comment on two peoples post. Although I do enjoy blogging, I think it is a very neat and organized way to keep track of progress made within the class and it provides an easy way to access all the past work that I have done. I think I have learned how to be more on top of my work because with blogging since it is an every week thing you have to make sure that it gets done! I also have learned how to use blogger which is really cool because maybe later down the road I might use it for other things. It has proved to be a great learning experience about blogging.

5. I have commented to Olivia and Hayley's posts.

  1. Hi Olivia! I love you example of using an audio book in class to help foster learning in students. For individuals that may have dyslexia, I think this is an excellent tool to implement in the classroom. The creation of the key board for the blind is an excellent tool for those that need assistive devices. Good job!
