Blog Post Six!

1. My first instinct was to go to the elementary school that I attended and look at their class page, although I was not able to find one for it. I looked at a few other schools and finally found one that I liked. I also browsed through a few teachers until I found a first grade teachers page that I really liked. Within this page there were pictures of the students working in class and on field trips. There was also information about any homework they would have and there were schedules posted about which days that had P.E. or field trips. There were also links to files that the parents might need access to in able to help teach their students at home. The schools page that I looked at is called, Immaculate Conception Elementary School and the grade is first. I've attached the link and a screenshot of the home page too.

2. The digital divide affects students success in schools because due to some students being of a low socioeconomic status, they might not be able to have access to a computer at all times. There are students whose only time with technology might be at school in the computer lab. Although it is so crucial for students to learn how to use a computer and how to make the most out of all the resources that it offers. This will affect the potential way that I teach because if I were starting to see this digital divide issue with my own students I would have to change around a few lesson plans. I would really want my students to figure out how to use technology and how it can be so beneficial to them. I would definitely center my lessons around my kids getting involved and hands on with technology. I would book more times periods at the computer lab and try to get in there and teach a few lessons. There are so many good websites that offer free resources for teachers for just about any subject. So it would not be challenging to find a way to redirect my lesson plan to make it more technology centered.

3. At first when using twitter I did not see it as a learning type of app. I viewed it more so as social media. Although after getting used to using it for more so education I really have come to like it. Just last week a student and I went back and forth about a few questions we had about an assignment. It was so simple to get into contact with her and to answer questions she had. I can see twitter being helpful as a future teacher as a way to interact with the kids and to give them updates about what is going on or if things are due. I also think that it would be helpful for them to be able to reach me if they had any questions or concerns about assignments or homework. It can also be a good way to post study guides or quizlets. I also have not experienced any problems while using twitter, so far it has been pretty easy and fun to use.

4. I have commented to Malyce's  and Olivia's blog!

  1. I just commented, but I don't see my comment on the site, even after refreshing, so my apologies if there's 2 comments from me.

I like the teacher's class page you found! It's really cool and much more detailed than any of the ones I could find. My new goal as a future teacher is to have a sweet class page like this one!
I've never thought of using Twitter as a means of teacher-student contact, nor have I thought of its use for posting assignments or study guides. How would the latter work? Would this be assuming that these items are found online and you just post a link to them?
