Blog Post Five!
1. The ELA technology standards are a set of standards different for each grade that shows what those students should be able to do with technology. It differs depending on the grade because kids grow and are learning different things at different rates. I chose the standards for Kindergarten because I am thinking about working with kindergarteners. There was only one standard posted under kindergarten which was LAFS.K.W.2.6, which talked about children being able to use or do activities on the smartboard. It also talks about them being able to use such programs like Paint. I envision it as small programs that are not so demanding but they help the child to get familiar with a computer or a smartboard. They probably focus on tactile learning with potentially an Ipad so the children can learn how make smaller movements with their hands. I think that since this is such a low skill set, I would be very capable of implementing something like this into education based on my skill set now. I say this because I have worked with smartboards before and with programs like paint etc, so I would be able to help the children figure out the basics of them. Even if they were just messing around with it and getting familiar with the tools.
2. I have never heard of CPALMS before, but I found it really interesting and potentially helpful while browsing through this website. Again for this website I chose kindergarten because I felt like I should stick with the same as I did with the standards. I decided to look into a math /science lesson. While going through the downloaded lesson plan I was a little bit overwhelmed and shocked that this was all written out and finished. It was like everything was done for me that needed to be so it was really cool to come across this resource that I will definitely use in the future. The lesson for kindergarten that I chose is titled "Kindergarten 5 Senses with Pumpkins". The basic overview is to recognize and realize what the 5 body parts are and how they can be used to explore a pumpkin. Within this lesson there is a math aspect that will be used to measure the pumpkin and write down the measurements of it that are found. I would love to use this in my classroom because I think it would be such a fun activity for children to experience and to get hands on with. It provides a great tactile version of learning for kids who might need that. Not all kids learn the same way, so this provides a good outlet for those kids who learn differently.
3. A Web 2.0 tool that I would use when I am teaching would be Kahoot. I have used Kahoot since I can remember, it is not only popular in high school but also elementary school. I can imagine that by the time I am teaching there will most likely be Ipads in the classroom so Kahoot will be easily available for my students to get access of. It is such a fun way to engage students in learning and even for them to make Kahoots on their own to potentially be played in the classroom. I personally really enjoy kahoot because it is so interactive for the students and teacher. It involves both parties, and it also has the potential to bring out a competitive of students which is always fun for them to get out of their normal routine. Here is the link for the website! https://kahoot.com/
